1. What attracts you to come to this restaurant?
👉 2020 Valentine's celebration for us! We pampered ourselves with fusion French fine dining in this beautiful restaurant. Have google some time to search for a good (i.e. quiet and beautiful ambiance) restaurant for us to enjoy dinner to our heart content, and stumbled upon this by chance!
2. What you expect to dine in this restaurant?
👉 Fusion French fine dining foods. Seasonal course set menu applicable for dinner, with price ranging from RM188++ to RM388++.
3. What is the recommended time to dine in this restaurant?
👉 Certainly is night time for us! With the perfectly dimmed lighting, cozy space, nice classic songs, private environment and beautiful decoration, this place is perfect for a romantic dating night! 😍
Fine dining in Penang island, Malaysia often gives us a very memorable gastronomical dining experience. We have tried several top notch fine dining restaurants in Penang and can't wait to explore more of the hidden gem or new addition of good restaurant in Penang. We usually love to dine in romantic fine dining restaurant for our special occasion celebration, and enjoy the dinner for about 3 hours+, slowly savoring the foods, chit-chatting and taking photos nonstop as memories. Recently we have the chance to visit Monsieur 85/Monsieur Bar & Restaurant as part of our Valentine's 2020 celebration! It is a gem newly added to Penang, our charming UNESCO heritage town, since few years ago. It is just located in the famous Beach Street and a stone's throw away from Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi. You can spend your day time exploring Georgetown area such as visiting several unique museums, walking around the Jetty Weld Quay area then just end your day with a romantic dinner right here. The moment you step into the restaurant, you will be welcomed with a dim romantic lighting and a special rustic feeling which ends up with a touch of elegance inside. There is a small door which can be opened and walked to the upstairs to a hidden bar and another door unlocked for a small private dining area with only a total of 7 tables. I guess everyone will fall in love with the romantic, rustic yet elegant interior ambiance of the restaurant. And did I mention that the taste of foods served here is by far the best fine dining experience that I ever have? 😋❤️
The restaurant is well raved among tourists and locals, so remember to make reservation well in advance especially during Valentine's and Christmas day etcetera. (FYI, we not able to book the exact date for Valentine's dinner and thought is better to slowly enjoy our dinner in weekend, so we celebrate it on 16 February which is a Sunday and apparently, 15 February is already fully booked and for 16 February there are few menu not available as run out of stock over the 3 days due to many people are coming over for Valentine's celebration that week). Hopefully in future we have chance to try the Valentine's set course. There are even photographer who helps to shoot couple photos at a cost on Valentine's day, and special menu catered to the lovely couples. Do check out the website of the restaurant for this kind of special occasion and book further in advance to avoid disappointment.
Monsieur Bar & Restaurant has only seasonal set course menu available for dinner. They serve lamb, pork rib, fish, chicken, and wagyu beef as main course, with price ranging from RM188++ to RM388++ with another 10% service charge to the total bill. During the 3 hours dinner, you will be served with starter (5 dishes), main course (1 dish), and dessert (1 dish). Since it is going to be a few hours tasting session, so sit down and slowly enjoy the dining experience offered by Monsieur!
Starter:
👉Tri Entree:
❤Description: Beetroot tartare, spicy shrimp glutinous rice ball, confit pulled duck puff pastry
❤Personal Review: Judging by the name, this dish consists of 3 different items as listed above. My husband loves the confit pulled duck puff pastry as they have a thick savory taste which blends the duck meat inside the delicious puff. Spicy shrimp glutinous rice ball is special which they put little sambal chilli shrimps on top of a glutinous rice ball which surprisingly makes a good combination. Beetroot tartare has an average taste which we can't really taste the beetroot but they have been well blended inside to make the reddish tartare.
👉Scallops Capellini:
❤Description: Wasabi tobiko, wakame, scallions
❤Personal Review: This is by far the best starter that we tried and we got to realize that this is the most famous starter that is best reviewed by diners. This dish consists of tobiko (flying fish small roe) with some touch of wasabi into the thin cold noodles, the taste is very good and the wasabi is not too much that stings your nose, not sure the thin cold noodles is blended with some sesame sauce which makes it a bit oily and smooth to eat, the tobiko roe popping up when you eat together with the noodle makes it a nice finishing touch as well. Other than that, there are scallops are spread on top of wakame (seaweed) and are chewy to eat with a fresh juicy texture.
👉Foie Gras
❤Description: Homemade mix nut biscuit, mango foam, chives oil, blueberries puree
❤Personal Review: After that we are served with the 3rd dish here. It has a homemade mix nut biscuit on the plate and served with some sweet mango foam with blueberries puree. They put a piece of fried lotus root on top as well, and this is by far the best fried lotus root that I have ever eaten! Not only it is crispy, it is not oily also (think it is air fry), it can make a very good snack choice for us.
👉Avgolemono Soup
❤Description: Poultry, dehydrated king mushroom sliced, basil oil, quail egg
❤Personal Review: Nice king mushroom and poultry soup here. Surprisingly they put quail egg inside which I can't really taste out, but have been nicely blended inside the soup. There is basil oil also to make it a smooth texture when you sip into your mouth.
👉Palate Cleanser
❤Description: Homemade sorbet
❤Personal Review: This is the last entree of starter, which is to clean your mouth before you indulge in your main course. They use lemon sorbet here which is very refreshing and we are ready for our main course!
Main Course:
👉Confit 75Celsius Duck Leg
❤Description: Confit duck jus, batata gnocchi, ice plant with citrus vinaigrette
❤Personal Review: Main course for HIM. A big piece of duck leg has been served here which has been marinated with some recipe juice to get rid of the bad odors of duck meat. The vegetables served here has ice plant which is mixed with some oil with vinegar and citrus to give it a smooth finishing taste. They have sweet potato gnocchi besides the main dish as well.
👉Baked Dill North Atlantic Cod
❤Description: Butter lime cream sauce, truffle rosti, roast asparagus
❤Personal Review: Main course for HER. Two pieces of North Atlantic cod has been served here which
Dessert:
👉Infusion Carrot Walnut Bar
❤Description: Chocolate mousse, raspberries puree, caramelized pumpkin seed cracker
❤Personal Review: Ends our set dinner course with carrot cake which topped with crunchy walnut nuts on top. The dessert doesn't have artificial kind of sweetness inside and the cream makes it quite smooth to eat as well.
