👉 As mentioned above, there are 3 mountain excursion tours that can be done from Lucerne, i.e. Mt. Pilatus, Mt. Rigi and Mt. Tiltis.
a) Across lake Lucerne on boat, and
b) Ascend the mountain via the world's steepest cogwheel railway (48 degree gradient), and
c) Descend the mountain via aerial cable car "Dragon Ride" and panorama gondola, and
d) Back to Lucerne town by bus (bus no.1 from Kriens Zentrum Pilatus to Lucerne main train station)

👉 Mt. Tiltis (altitude: 3,238m) is a mountain for adventure suitable for those who like adrenaline rush.It has the world's first revolving cable car called Tiltis Rotair, highest suspension bridge in Europe called Tiltis Cliff Walk, glacier park, adventure park, glacier cave and etcetera.

👉 Mt. Rigi (altitude: 1,798m) is known as queen of the mountain and surrounded by 3 lakes which are Lake Lucerne, Lake Zug and Lake Lauerz. It has the lowest altitude among the 3 mountains and the least famous among travel tours, but it is rated as the most favourite one voted by foreigners, due to the close to nature feeling and least crowded spot that Mt. Rigi excursion has offered to them. What's more, the trip is 100% covered with Swiss Travel Pass (as of year 2019). The view definitely gets better with FREE admission! It has the Majestic Round Trip as well! Let's get to know more on the routes to reach Mt. Rigi, as below:
a) Lucerne to Vitznau by boat, and
b) Ascend from Vitznau to Rigi Kulm via cogwheel train , and
c) Descend from Rigi Kulm to Arth-Goldau via cogwheel train, and
d) Back to Lucerne town by regular train

👉 So now you should have a rough idea which mountain excursion to go from Lucerne. Let's talk about our Lucerne experience then. For us, we chose to go Mt. Rigi as it is free by Swiss Travel Pass. We had been to Jungfraujoch mountain for those glacier experience as well so decided to skip Mt. Tiltis. Mt. Pilatus is attractive for us, however when we visited on end April, the world's steepest cogwheel train is not yet under operation, hence the Golden Round Trip is not really complete in our minds. Thus, Mt. Rigi was the last choice we made! We used the Majestic Round Trip route as mentioned above.

👉 We had a very delicious Italian lunch in Lucerne town, after our trip from Mt. Rigi. The restaurant is called Made in Sud. It had a high rating in Tripadvisor and that was really worth it! We had a tasty and fulfilling meal of ravioli and spaghetti here.
👉We walked around Lucerne town after the lunch. We paid a visit to the famous landmark Chapel bridge and walked around the old town. We went to visit the Musegg Wall as well. It has a beautiful garden outside for leisure walk, and then you can walk inside to visit the inside of working clock tower. It is Lucerne's oldest clock tower and strikes one minute before all other clocks in town!
